New: BREF! Confronts Dominion at RVA Earth Fest
Blue Ridge Earth First! is comprised of activists from throughout the beautiful and biodiverse mountains and piedmont of Virginia. Founded primarily by folks involved with Mountain Justice, an Appalachian movement to resist mountain-top removal coal mining, BREF! works in solidarity with communities directly-affected by such operations. To this struggle we contribute the element of direct action as well as the capacity to educate and organize throughout the vast non-coal bearing parts of our state. As we build and grow, we hope to fight not only coal but any and all greed-driven developments that harm our ecosystems and communities.
Earth First! is an international radical environmental movement. Radical means root and EF! Strives to address the true root causes of environmental destruction. For this reason we challenge not only specific polluting operations, but they entire dynamics of power by which industry is sanctioned by law and government to reap profit off of projects that cause direct harm to life both human and non-human. Held aloft by capitalism and an increasingly oppressive government this intentionally and meticulously designed status quo must be directly confronted, challenged and changed.
Earth First! is not a 501(c)3 non-profit and has no official leaders. We are organized collectively and are accountable to ourselves, our communities and the life-giving cycles of the natural world.
